Next-generation

medical balloons

We design & manufacture world-leading medical balloons—trusted globally for their quality.

Working from our state-of-the-art facility in Ireland, we’re an owner-managed team of engineers and technicians—making balloons that accelerate medical device innovation, worldwide.

We have the fastest turnaround

We make custom balloons in just 2-3 weeks and new tooling in less than a day. This means rapid iteration and a reduction in technical risks.

We meet challenges others won't

We work with our customers to innovate and find solutions for even the most challenging balloon projects.

We make our own machines

Our proprietary technologies allow us to push the boundaries of what's possible with medical balloons.

Your design challenge.
Our DFM solutions.

We add Design For Manufacturability input via our Design Services to help your project scale faster. Our experience and advanced equipment allow us to make balloons in shapes, sizes and compliance, bespoke to your project’s needs. From simple spheres to more complex shapes like Dumbbell, Donut, and Hemi Balloons, we make it.

High-performance
medical-grade materials

We use the very best thermoplastic materials to deliver the strength, flexibility, and durability needed for your medical device. Whether you need non-compliant, semi-compliant, compliant or ultra-compliant balloons, our materials—like Nylon, PET, Pebax, TPUs and TPEs—have got you covered. Surface modifications and blends are available on request.

Balloon
manufacturing process

Our advanced blow moulding and pre-forming processes—engineered for repeatability and speed—are unique and proprietary. We use 3-piece, 5-piece, and clamb-shell tooling, and we can make new custom tools in 1 day. We can also pleat and fold your balloons at the component level, reducing crossing profile and optimising yields.

Accelerating medical device innovation with industry-leading technology

Pleat & Fold

We use state-of-the-art machinery to pleat and fold at component level creating optimised balloons with minimal crossing profile and improved production yields. Each balloon that we fold can be leak tested prior to shipping to eliminate pinholes.

Neck Thinning and Surface Modification

Using a secondary process, we can reduce the thickness of the balloon component in the neck region to minimise its crossing profile. We can also tailor surface finishes to enhance adhesion, increase friction, or adjust light refraction characteristics in specific areas.

Balloon Testing

Each lot of balloons undergoes testing. We provide Dimensional Inspection Data (e.g., Balloon OD, Length, Neck-IDs, Double Wall Thickness) and Performance Test Data (e.g., Burst Pressures at 37℃, Rated Burst Pressure, failure modes). Our testing combines advanced Vision Systems, metrology tech, and trusted industry inspection techniques.

Holes and Windows in Balloons
new

We can cut holes and shapes into balloons with high precision and a smooth cut-edge. Many customers use blow-molded components for ultra-thin walls (10µm/0.0004” single WT to 130µm/0.0050” SWT) and strength. These components are often used as "thin film" rather than balloons. We can cut intricate, strong patterns into these components with precision.

High Pressure Braid Reinforced Balloons
new

Our proprietary balloon technology allows us to create balloons with high Rated Burst Pressure (RBP) and ultra-low compliance. We’ve made a 6 x 50mm balloon that bursts over 40atm with just 0.30mm growth from 2atm to 30atm. Our braids are thermally bonded to balloons, ensuring component fixation without adhesives.

Sensors and Energy Effectors on Balloons
new

We can mount flexible electronic hardware like PCBs, sensors, transponders, antennas, energy effectors, traces, shields, and more to the outer surface of your balloons—adding the world of flexible electronics to your toolkit.

Radiopaque Balloons
new

We can modify your balloons to be visible under X-Ray and Fluoroscopic imaging. Techniques include deposition of a thin layer of gold metal alloy (so thin that the balloon remains flexible) or the addition of tungsten-loaded polymer marker elements. This allows balloons inflated with gas or pure saline to be visible—without requiring contrast-loaded saline.

Why choose Hoop?

Reiteration of design services

Q: Do I need to have a specification or drawing for my balloon?
A: Your project will advance faster with a well-considered balloon specification or drawing. Our balloon engineers can assist with developing these via our Design Service.

Quantities and pricing

Q: How does Hoop’s pricing model work for balloon developments?
A: For balloon developments, we charge non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs - including time and materials - as we iterate through the development phase. Development phase costs also include tooling for blow moulding, balloon extrusion, testing (including dimensional and performance), and the production of balloon samples.

Q: What is Hoop’s pricing model for production pricing?
A: For production pricing, once the development phase is completed and the design is frozen, Hoop typically offers price breaks at the following annual order quantities per SKU:

5,000
10,000
25,000
50,000
100,000
200,000

Regulatory elements

Q: What certifications do Hoop Medical balloons have?
A: Our manufacturing facility in Wexford, Ireland, where all of our balloons are made, is ISO 13485:2016 certified.

Payment terms

We ship from Wexford—with most shipments arriving within 3 days.

Q: Do you accept credit card payments?
A: We accept credit cards on request using a Stripe® payment link we will provide. There is a 4% fee to cover this payment service.

Medical device assembly

Q: How do I inflate the balloon components more easily for initial evaluations?
A: Using our ‘shortie’ service, we can mount your balloons to a short mock catheter shaft and add lures for easy inflation using a syringe or Endoflator®. For finished device assembly, we can recommend one of our preferred assembly partners.

Founder-led with world-class manufacturing facilities in-house, we're shaping a new era for the medical device industry—one balloon at a time.
